Last week, First Lady Michelle Obama finished planting her sixth-annual White House Kitchen Garden. This year, she did something different. She planted a pollinator garden to attract and support 70,000 bees already gracing the presidential lawn, as well as monarch butterflies and other pollinators.

However, the truth is that honey bees may also get affected by the extensive pesticide usage which goes on in the chemically treated farms. The issue is so severe that the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, warned Barack Obama in May 2013 that if the excessive control of pesticides is not reduced, it could lead to a globally volatile situation as the bee population throughout the world becomes more and more affected.

Lawmakers visit Marine held in Mexico, say sergeant ‘needs to come home’
Two Republican lawmakers visited a Marine sergeant held in a Mexican jail Saturday, with one of them saying that the serviceman “needs to come home.” Rep. Ed Royce, R-Calif., and Rep. Matt Salmon, R-Ariz., visited Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi at the El Hongo II prison in Tecate, Mexico. Tahmooressi has been held there since March on gun charges after he accidentally crossed over the Mexican border with three legally purchased guns in his pickup truck.

Woman’s selfie helps doctors make diagnosis
A Canadian woman may have saved her own life by recording her stroke with her smartphone, CBC News reported. In April, Stacey Yepes’s face froze and she began experiencing trouble speaking. Thinking it may be a stroke, she went to the hospital after her symptoms subsided. Doctors suspected she was simply suffering from stress and sent her home with tips for stress management.
